Press Release 01/24/2022 On 01/19/2022 at 10:14 A.M. Cortez Police Department Officers were requested to do a Welfare Check at 1609 Tucker Ct. The request was made by a family member who was unable to reach anyone at the residence. Initially Cortez Fire was requested to respond to the residence for a possible Carbon Monoxide leak. Upon entry into the residence three individuals were found deceased, two from blunt force trauma and one from a gunshot wound. The individuals were identified as William Sanderson (79), wife Ona Sanderson (77) and step son / son Linas Gasis (46). Detectives with the Cortez Police Department are investigating the case with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office Investigation, and the Montezuma County Coroner’s Office. The Investigation is ongoing at this time. Based upon this investigation, there are no safety concerns in the neighborhood or City of Cortez related to this matter
