Montezuma County Colorado
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Commissioner Joel Stevenson. Joel will be remembered for his deep commitment to Montezuma County and the people who live here. As a life-long resident of the county, Joel spent many of those years in public service, most recently representing District 3 on the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners. In an email to County employees, Administrator Shak Powers said, “Joel valued the efforts of County employees and worked to reward them. He understood the plight of the citizens of the County and worked to be sure their concerns were heard and their tax dollars were spent wisely.” Commissioner Candelaria commented that while he only had a short opportunity to work with Commissioner Stevenson, he thoroughly enjoyed their time together. “Joel was definitely moving into a strong leadership role within the County. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.” Commissioner Lindsay added, “I’ve lost a friend. For the short time that he was on the board, Joel really dedicated himself to the job. His knowledge, especially of planning and zoning issues and everything related to agriculture, will be sorely missed.” We grieve with Joel’s family during this incredibly difficult time and ask that everyone respect their privacy. The process to fill Commissioner Stevenson’s seat on the Board of County Commissioners will be overseen by the Montezuma County Republican Central Committee, as per state statute (CRSA 1-12-206). Questions should be directed to committee Chairman Allen Maez.
I officially nominate Joel for the Herman Cain Award.
